Price vs. Average Over Time
The Average Stock Price Calculator helps investors understand their true cost basis when buying a stock across multiple transactions at different prices.
Here`s how each value is calculated:
- Price / Share: The price you paid per share in that transaction.
- Shares: How many shares you purchased in that transaction.
- Total Cost: Price × Shares for each individual purchase.
- Average Cost Basis: Total cost of all purchases ÷ Total shares owned.
- Running Average: Your cumulative average cost after each successive purchase.
The ▼ indicator (green) means you bought below your final average — a good buy. The ▲ indicator (red) means you bought above your final average.
